HRC Rowers have Great Races at Royal Canadian Henley Regatta
Just in case you didn’t hear, HRC had 5 rowers head to the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta this past week. This is an historic regatta, with this year’s being the 133rd edition, and people come from all over the world to compete.
HRC’s own coach, Lizzie O’Carroll, went to race the single (1x) in two differnt age categories, Senior and Under 23 (U23) women. Lizzie had a great heat race but didn’t make the semi-final for her Senior Women’s 1x race. Racing against tough competition, Lizzie had a super race and she came second in her U23 Women’s 1x race to make the semi-final. She came a close third in her semi-final which, unfortunately, wasn’t enough to make the final. Great racing Lizzie!
Four of our Junior Men also went to race at Henley. Adam Tyedmers, Joe Stewart, Marshall Taylor, and Peter MacSewen were all racing in the U17 age category. Adam, Joe and Peter all raced in the U17 1x event. Adam had a great race and came fourth in his heat, Peter came 2nd, and Joe came 1st in their heats and both moved on to the U17 1x semi-finals. In the 1x semi, Joe had a difficult race and ended up 5th. Peter had a really great race and placed 3rd, missing out on second and a place in the final by only 0.4 seconds. SO Close! Great 1x racing boys!
The boys then raced in the U17 2x event, with Adam & Marshall coming 3rd in their heat. Joe & Peter then had a great race and finished first in their heat, moving on the to the semi-final. After a tough race, Joe & Peter came third in the semi just missing out on a spot in the final.
The 4 junior men also raced in the U17 4x. They moved on to the semi-final after coming third in their heat. They then placed 4th in the semi, missing out on a place in the final.
Congratulations from everyone at HRC to Lizzie, Adam, Joe, Marshall and Peter AND their coaches & parents for a great result at a highly competitive regatta!
