Introduction

To better serve our members, and enhance our fitness and competitive programs, Halifax Rowing Club needs to replace and upgrade its fleet. By supporting the HRC Boat Fund 2017 Investment Plan you can help to make this happen!!

We are looking to raise $40,000, by selling Boat Fund Certificates at $500 each!

Each Boat Fund Certificate gets you:

  • 5, $110 HRC Gift Vouchers, of which one can be used each year for 5 years
  • a 2% return on your investment
  • recognition and much more!

What is the Boat Fund 2017 Investment Plan?

In order to continue to serve the wider Halifax community, and its current and future members, Halifax Rowing Club needs to maintain and upgrade its fleet of rowing shells. With new rowing shells costing from $12,000 - $30,000 each, finding the funds to do this is an on-going challenge.

In past years, HRC has used grants to fund the purchase of new and used shells. We have also borrowed funds from financial institutions, partnered with RowNS, and used monies raised through fees charged to our members.

And while this approach has allowed us to purchase some new-to-us shells, and enhance / upgrade our fleet, we need an influx of funds to replace some of our oldest and most used shells.

The 2017 Investment Plan lets HRC members and others to invest in the Club and to allow us to quickly raise funds to purchase much needed equipment for the Club. Rather than borrowing funds from a bank, HRC will borrow funds from those who support the Investment Plan, providing these investors with a return on their investment over a 5 year period.

What is the Goal of the 2017 Investment Plan?

The goal of the 2017 Investment Plan is to raise up to $40,000 on or before December 31, 2017

How will the 2017 Investment Plan Work?

The Boat Fund 2017 Investment Plan seeks to raise funds by selling 2017 Boat Fund certificates at a price of $500 each. Anyone can participate in the Investment Plan.

For each certificate purchased the investor will receive:

  • Five (5) $110 HRC Gift Vouchers dated for use in 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022.
  • For each certificate purchased, investors are entitled to use one HRC Gift Vouchers each year from 2018 - 2022 to cover HRC related fees (programs, regatta, etc.) This represents an approximate 2% annual return-on-investment per certificate.
  • Recognition in HRC emails, on Twitter and Facebook, and on an ‘Investor Roll’ posted in the Club House & on the HRC Website
  • An entry into a draw to grant naming rights purchased shell(s).
  • An invitation to attend a special, investor only, pre-christening reception, to be held at SMBC, with drinks and snacks and small recognition gift.

Individuals may purchase up to four (4) certificates. HRC Gift Vouchers can be transferred to anyone by the investor for use in the designated year.

What will the 2017 Investment Plan Funds be used for?

Funds raised will be used to purchase new / new to us rowing shells. The HRC Board has decided that funds raised through the investment plan will be used to purchase a new, mid-weight 2x, a new light or mid-weight 1x, and a used 4+. However, the specific shells to be purchased will depend on:

  • The needs of the Club as identified by the Club Head Coach and the Board of Directors, with input from the Club’s membership.
  • The total amount of money raised
  • The availability of new or used shells from sources such as Hudson Canada, RCA, etc.
