HRC's Winter Training Programs
HRC is pleased to offer winter training sessions for all rowers. Whether you are new to rowing or you have been rowing for years, we have a winter training program that will be just right for you. Scroll down for more information on Junior, Adult Competitive, & Adult Rec/Fitness programs. Note: for a program to go ahead we need a minimum of 8 people to register for that program.
All winter training programs run from November to April unless otherwise specified by the Winter Training Coach.
The schedule for all winter training programs can be found in this PDF file.
All HRC Winter Training Programs will take place at Dalplex. As such, you will need to have a Dalplex membership to take part in any of our winter training programs. For those who do not have one already, HRC has, in the past, negotiated a special 6-month (Nov - end of April) membership rate to help reduce the costs to our members.
When registering for a Dalplex membership, ask for the special Halifax Rowing Club rate.
This program is offered to athletes aged 18 and under. This program will be designed to accommodate all junior rowers, those who have taken a Learn-to-Row class but did not join the HRC junior novice program, those who are currently in the HRC junior novice or rec/fitness program, or those who are currently in the HRC junior competitive program. The goal of this program will be to have fun, enhance fitness (strength, endurance, flexibility), develop and improve rowing technique, speed and power, and to have fun (did I say that already). Rowers in this program will train with three goals in mind (1) to become a better rower so that in the spring you are ready to get back on the water, (2) to develop strength and endurance, and (3) to learn how to race. Oh yes, and of course have fun!
The Adult Competitive winter training program has one goal; the relentless and ruthless pursuit of perfection. It is open to anyone who is looking to (1) improve their rowing technique and racing skills, (2) increase their strength and endurance so they are more powerful with every stroke while on the water, and (3) race and win! And of course, you should expect to have fun too 🙂
Adult Recreational / Fitness
Those joining the Adult Recreational / Fitness program should be looking for a great way to improve their rowing technique and overall fitness over the course of the winter. Targeted towards rowers who row for fun and or fitness, or those who are looking to get started in this fantastic life long activity, this program will ensure the progressive development of your overall rowing abilities while having fun at the same time!
